Frequently Asked Questions

  • With a small practice, you get to build a relationship and level of trust that is often not achievable at larger practices. We will work together to make a plan for your care that you are comfortable with and take your personal needs into account. I truly love getting to know each of my patients and I look forward to meeting you!

  • Most insurance plans do not need a referral to be seen for gynecology or sexual healthcare. If you have an HMO insurance plan and/or you are coming to Syzygy Health for gender affirming hormone therapy, you should check beforehand with your insurance to ensure you don’t need a referral from your primary care provider.

  • For most appointments, no you will not need your past medical records.

If you are coming for gender affirming hormone therapy and started at another clinic, it can be helpful to have those records, but not required.

If you had an abnormal pap test at another provider, please have them fax the records to our office at least 2 weeks before your appointment. The fax number is 833-771-2637.

  • The best way to ensure coverage is by calling your insurance provider to confirm that your individual plan includes care at Syzygy Health. If you have an insurance plan that will not cover care at Syzygy Health, you may self-pay for your visit.

  • You can absolutely bring a friend or family member if you feel this would be helpful for your appointment!

  • If you have brief questions between your appointments, you can message me through the patient portal. This is the preferred method of communication. If you are unable to message through the portal you can call 508-474-8997 and you will receive a call back from me.

Please keep in mind this is not intended to replace appointments, so if your question necessitates a larger conversation, you may be encouraged to make an appointment.

  • I understand that sometimes life gets in the way of making it to your appointment. Because Syzygy Health is a small practice, we do ask that you be courteous and let us know at least 24 hours before your appointment that you need to cancel or reschedule. If you cancel or reschedule within 24 hours of your appointment, it may result in you being charged a $25 no-show fee.

Please note this policy does not apply when travel is dangerous due to inclement weather or if you have an active COVID infection. For either of these scenarios you will not incur a no-show charge. Feel free to message through the portal if you have further questions.

  • You will be able to check your lab results on your patient portal. Most results are posted within 2-7 days but pap and colposcopy results can take up to 2 weeks.

Starting in 2021, patients are able to see results on their patient portals as soon as they are available. That means you may be able to see a result before I get a chance to notify you. Please know that I will always provide explanations for test results, as well as next steps if required.

  • It is recommended to have your first pap test when you are 21 years old. When you’re ages 25-29 we also will test you for Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) if the pap test is abnormal. When you are 30 years and older you will get tested for HPV every time you have a pap test even if you have a normal pap.

  • While routine gynecological exams don’t need to start until you are 21 years old, anyone 13 years and older is welcome to make an appointment for any services except for PrEP (available for patients 18+) and gender affirming hormone therapy (available for patients 16+).

For minors (ages 13 through 17) you can be seen without a parent or guardian. However, if you don’t want them to know about your appointment and you plan to use insurance, it is best to call your insurance company to see if your visit information could be seen by the policy holder (usually a parent or guardian).

If you have been told by your insurance that your parent or guardian would be able to see visit information and you have concerns about confidentiality, you may qualify for discounted out-of-pocket care.

  • It is legal in Massachusetts for people ages 16 and older to receive gender affirming hormone therapy as long as you have already gone through puberty. For minors (16 and 17 years old) you will need to bring a parent or legal guardian to your visits.
